CT ARMED Security Officer Certification BLUE Card

At the end of this approved State Police Special Licensing & Firearms Unit course, you will be able to submit your approved documents to a security company to become a licensed armed security officer (Class 1 Pistol Permit). The class is eight hours of classroom instruction and a live-fire range qualification. The certification is only valid for one year. Yearly re-certification is required by law.

Armed Security Guards uniformed or not, in the State of Connecticut are required to have a Firearms Permit Endorsement Class 1 on their Connecticut Firearms Permit for Pistols and Revolvers. This is known as the Blue Card certification. Students must qualify with the firearm they will be working with for employment.

Candidates may take this course prior to being hired for an armed security position with a licensed security agency.  The security company is required to submit your documents to the State Police License and Firearms Unit.  The Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection is responsible for issuing your Blue Card Endorsement once all requirements are met. The Blue Card endorsement coincides with the expiration date on your pistol permit and is good for five years. You are required to complete a re-certification class and a live fire firearm qualification course on an annual basis.  TC Training Disciplines also offers this recertification class.

The State of Connecticut requires Armed Security Officers to re-qualify on an annual basis.

Basic Requirements for Connecticut Armed Security Officers:

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • United States citizen or documented immigrant.
  • No felony convictions or any crime involving the illegal use of weapons.
  • Never disqualified from owning a firearm.
  • Successful criminal background check.
  • Passport photo.
  • No previous security license denial.
  • Drug testing (Maybe required).
  • Good moral character.
  • Connecticut State Pistol Permit (Resident or Non-Resident).
  • Drivers license

Training Objectives: 

  • Identify firearm nomenclature and safety issues regarding the use and safe storage of firearms.
  • To identify and demonstrate on-duty firearm carry techniques.
  • Understand and discuss Connecticut General Statutes regarding security officer laws and firearm use of force.
  • Legal responsibilities in carrying and using a firearm as an armed security officer.

  • Re-certification is required on an annual basis and the material covered is required by the state

What to bring:

  • Your identification and Connecticut Pistol Permit (we will need to make a copy).
  • You will need 100rds of duty ammunition to qualify with the firearm you will be using for duty.
  • If you would like to add an additional firearm, each firearm will be an additional $25. (Additional duty ammunition is required for each additional firearm.)
  • Drinks and snacks are allowed in the classroom.
  • Students are required bring their firearm (unloaded), duty ammunition and duty belt with duty holster, magazine pouch, belt keepers and related duty belt equipment to class, that is utilized for duty.
  • You will be allowed 2 opportunities to pass the shooting qualification.

What to wear:

  • Do NOT wear low cut shirts. No open toed shoes/sandals or high heels.
  • Duty uniform, duty boots are preferred, but not required.
  • During the winter months, bring a warm sweatshirt or light jacket for range practice.

Annual Blue Card Renewal Classroom and Firearm Qualification for Current Class 1 Armed Security Guards

It is the State of Connecticut prerequisite that all Armed Security Officers are required to qualify on a yearly basis with the firearm that they will be using in the capacity of their security duties.

Documentation of this re-certification training must be supplied to the Special Licensing & Firearms Unit annually.

  • Tuition: $125. includes range fee.

Cancellation or Rescheduling Policy

If you are unable to attend a scheduled class, you can reschedule by contacting us no later than one week prior to the class date. You may reschedule a class once, and your attendance is required within an agreed time period. As an option your class can be transferred to another person with prior approval from TC Training Disciplines LLC.  TC Training Disciplines, LLC has the right to cancel and reschedule any class due to safety reasons, inclement weather or other unforeseen situations.  If you do not show up for your scheduled class, there is no refunds or reschedules.  If you fail the class, there is NO REFUND.
